ISLAMABAD/LAHORE/KARACHI - Leaders of political and religious parties on Monday condemned the terrorist attack on PNS Mehran Airbase of Pakistan Navy, terming it an attack on Pakistans sovereignty and a conspiracy to demoralise the armed forces and the whole nation. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central leader Sadiqul Farooq demanded the prime minister to form a joint investigation commission to probe the Naval base attack. Addressing a press conference on Monday in Lahore, he said that the probe commission should be formed in consultation with the Opposition leader Ch Nisar Ali Khan to investigate the weaknesses in the defence system of the country. He called on the government to expose the groups providing logistic support and giving refuge to foreigners targeting Pakistan. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid Altaf Hussain said in a statement that the attack was a violation of Pakistans sovereignty. He termed the perpetrators as open enemies of the nation and demanded concrete measures to boost the security. In his statement, Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh President Shahi Syed denounced the attack, terming it a conspiracy to weaken the country. JI Ameer Munawar Hasan expressed his grief over the martyrdom of armed forces officials and loss of costly planes. He said the attack was result of well-organised terrorism and the hand of US, India and Israel could not be ruled out. He said the foreign hand was playing with Pakistans existence, while the intelligence agencies were busy in securing US targets and interior minister playing the role of defence counsel by linking every terrorist activity to the Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. PTI central spokesman, Umer Sarfaraz Cheema was also of the view that foreign elements were behind this tragic event who wanted to create an international perception that Pakistan is not a safe place and that the strategic assets of the country, including the nukes, could fall in the hands of the terrorists. He demanded the government cancel the visas of the suspected US nationals immediately and send them back. MNA Marvi Memon demanded the government brief the parliament on the Mehran base attack and its immediate and consequential damage. She paid a tribute to the armed forces and condoled the death of brave soldiers. She said it was time to review our policies and demanded the PM take the nation into confidence and explain the definition and scope of high alert. PML-Q (Likeminded Punjab chapter) leader Mian Asif along with the supporters held a protest demonstration to condemn the terror attack and demanded the government call an all parties conference to devise a counter terrorism strategy. Former federal law minister Iqbal Haider said there seems to be a serious security lapse behind the attack as it was not possible for terrorists to gain their targets without some kind of inside support. Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Pakistan Chairman Rehmat Khan Wardag said that Taliban and American agencies were involved in the attack. Majlis-e-Wehdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Central spokesman Hassan Zafar Naqvi and Jaffaria Alliance President Allama Abbas Kumaili in their joint statement blamed America and Israel for the attack. They demanded immediate operation against the American and other foreign agents.
