Salman leaves for Kabul for trilateral talks

ISLAMABAD - Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, on the invitation of Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Javid Lodin, has left for Kabul for bilateral consultations and second trilateral meeting of the senior officials of Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States to be held in Kabul today (Tuesday). According to the foreign office, the foreign secretary met the Chairman of High Peace Council Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani on Monday and conveyed the greetings of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and appreciated the work of the High Peace Council. The foreign secretary also conveyed the commitment of the government of Pakistan to facilitate the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation peace process. The foreign secretary also stressed that as agreed by Pakistan and Afghanistan, it was important to support the development track in Afghanistan. Professor Rabbani appreciated the commitment made by Pakistan and the Pakistani leadership and requested Pakistan to continue its support to achieve the objectives of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
