LAHORE World Thyroid Day will be observed on Wednesday (tomorrow) with the purpose to create public awareness about the disease and its handling. The Department of Medicine, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, will organise a seminar to mark the event. Experts will deliver lectures on common thyroid disease, its manifestation and management. It is a part of continued medical education programs for doctors, postgraduate medical students and also for increasing public awareness. Thyroid is an important gland in front of neck, which controls and affects all the basic body functions including, growth both physical and mental, metabolism, reproduction, digestion. Any disease which leads to over functioning or under functioning of this gland affects all the major body systems and leads to significant morbidity or even death. However, these conditions are fairly preventable and 100 percent treatable.
