ISLAMABAD - Third seed Mohsin Ali of The Nation clinched the 1st PSF-RISJA Squash Championship title after brushing aside fourth seed Afzal Javed 2-0 in the final here at Mushaf Ali Squash Complex on Friday.

Mohsin was off to flying start as he raced onto take 7-2 lead in the first game, before winning it 11-5. In the second game, Afzal fought well and took a convincing 5-0 lead but Mohsin showed his potential to first level the score at 5-5 and then win the game 11-8, thus claimed the title. It was also a unique occasion, as never in the history of Pakistan media, squash event was organised in the country and that it was broadcasted live.

Earlier in the first semifinal, Mohsin Ali came from behind to beat Mohsin Ijaz 2-1 while in the second semifinal, Afzal shocked top seed Ayaz Akbar in straight games 11-9, 11-4.

Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) SVP Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab was the chief guest on the occasion, while PDSA chairman Sh Abdul Waheed, secretary Nasir Mehmood Ch, DDG PSB Agha Amjedullah, PSF secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz, Jamshed Gul, RISJA chairman Abdul Mohi Shah, RISJA members and others were also present there. Faheem Gul Khan supervised the semifinals and final while Saima Shoukat assisted him.

Later, the chief guest distributed trophies, tracksuits and souvenirs among the guests and players and offered free of cost facilities to all the RSIJA members and also to provide all the gears at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex. The RISJA chairman thanked the PSF for holding the event successfully and hoped this would continue on annual basis.
