Islamabad - As many as 17 suspects have been nabbed by Islamabad police during a search operation carried out in various areas of the federal capital, informed police spokesman on Saturday.

The detainees were being grilled, he said. According to him, Inspector General of Islamabad Police Tahir Alam Khan directed all SDPOs and SHOs to enhance patrolling as well as road checking in various areas of the city and conduct search operations at slum, Afghan habitats, under-construction buildings, workshops, bus stands and inns. The combing was headed by an SDPO. Following top cop’s directions, the law enforcement agencies along with lady police officials conducted raids in various areas and apprehended some 17 suspects and shifted them to police stations for inquiry.

He added that Banigala police team conducted search in the areas of Lakhwal, Banigala and under-construction buildings as well as plazas there. This team succeeded to nab 17 suspects who were being investigated further.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad has said the purpose of this search operation and high vigilance was to ensure foolproof security as well as to purge the city of outlaws. He further directed all the SHOs to comb areas in their precincts to control crime rate. He has also appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant and inform police in case of any suspicious activity around them.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police claimed to have arrested 16 outlaws from various areas of the city, besides recovering weapons, stake money and other booty from their possession, police spokesman said on Saturday.   In concerning police stations, he said, cases have been filed against all the detainees whereas further investigation was underway. According to him, police station Khanna team on a tip-off raided at Barma Town and arrested some 17 gamblers red-handed.

The gamblers held by police are identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin, Muhammad Irshad, Zaheer-Ud-Din, Mehmood Umer, Saif Ali, Muhammad Nabeel, Muhammad Yousaf,  Taufeeq Ahmed, Yasir Mehmood, Shahid Iqbal, Khuram Shahzad, Arslan, Khalid Mehmood, Toseef Khalid, Noman, Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Niaz. Police also have recovered stake money from their possession.

In yet another action, Sabzi Mandi police managed to capture three people on account of having illegal weapons. Police seized 3 pistols and one Kalashnikov along with ammunition from the possession of accused who are later identified as Talib Hussain, Junaid Saleem and Malik Zahid Mehmood.

Taking action against illegal immigrants in the federal capital, the spokesman said that police also arrested an Afghan national Hazarat wali. Similarly, Nilor police held an accused Wajid Iqbal and recovered one bottle wine from him. Lohibher police recovered one pistol of 30-bore along with ammunition from the possession of arrested accused Shahid Rasheed. Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons and further investigation was underway, he said.

Meanwhile, police launched crackdown against beggars in the federal capital and took ten professional alms-seekers from various areas of the city. Cases were registered against the accused and later a court of law sent them on judicial remand.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Mir Vais Niaz has appreciated this overall performance of police and directed all the officers to accelerate their efforts to curb activities of anti-social elements.
