MIRPUR (AJK)- A three-day capacity-building workshop on its second day highlighted the role of the society especially parents to produce quality architects of the nation.

The participants resolved to perform their role to safeguard the rights of the children through raising awareness among the parents. The workshop titled “Child Protection and Referral” is being hosted by the state-run Social Welfare Department. Representatives of a large number of non-governmental organisations are attending the workshop on discouraging the exploitation of children in the society.

Inaugurating the workshop, District Head of the AJK Social Welfare Department Afaq Ahmed Qureshi highlighted the objectives of holding of the workshop is to train the local NGOs for protection of children especially belonging to the poor classes in the society.

Experts underlined that the children, mostly belonging to poor classes, were passing through the sense of deprivation, insecurity, bleak future because of the imbalances in the society, non-implementation of the law for protection of the children.

They called for the performance of due individual and collective role of the NGOs to stop injustice and excesses meted out to children in form of child labour, their deprivation from the basic right of education and other means of exploitation in view of discriminatory behaviour on the part of parents and the state especially the institutions responsible of securing and protecting rights of children.
