LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority has announced to distribute certificates among food industry companies for setting up stalls on subsidized rates.
Special appreciation certificates will be given to those companies who are offering 20 per cent discount and maintain the protocols and food standards of the PFA.
Director General Noorul Amin Mengal announced this during his visit to Ghalib Market, Shahdman and Whadat Colony Ramazan Bazaars on Thursday.
He appreciated food industry for cooperating with PFA for setting up stalls in makeshift markets. He expressed satisfaction on arrangements. The stalls will remain functional till May 25.
Next year, a mega bazaar will be established in each city of Punjab during the month of Ramazan, he mentioned.
The PFA has imposed Rs 418,500 fine on 47 Food Business Operators (FBOs) and sealed two food points over failure to meet the food standards.
The PFA has imposed fine tickets of Rs 133, 000 on eight outlets in Lahore, Rs 74,000 fine on six FBOs in Multan, Rs 9,000 fine five eateries in Rawalpindi, Rs 24,000 fine on six food points in Sargodha, Rs 3,000 fine in Faisalabad, Rs 6,000 fine in Bahawalpur, Rs 59,000 fine on eight shopkeepers in DG Khan and Rs 110,500 fine on 11 food points in Gujranwala over violations of provincial food laws.
According to PFA spokesman, a huge quantity of unhygienic and adulterated food stuff was discarded during an operation including 1070 kg fruits and vegetables, 247 litres substandard juice, 315 kg rancid oil, 160 packets of ice cream, 70 kg loose colour, 100 packets of adulterated nimko, more than 800 packs of noodles, 4211 sachets of Meggi, milk and other products. PFA’s watchdogs have served notices on thousands of food points for improvement during the raid.
