The Western culture has infiltrated our lives, shattering our values and morals completely. And yet, we don't realize this at all. When we look around ourselves with open eyes, we observe a humongous change; media, whether electronic or print, has nothing to show except women in dare-bare clothes, the television, theatre and cinema has no other topic except love between the opposite sexes. And lets not even talk of advertisements for ads of even condoms and sanitary pads have started appearing in our media. You can't close your eyes from this assault on your senses because you can't do that on the road while driving and the roads are full of billboards evoking nothing except lust. All this is creating an extremely negative impact on the youth of today. Our leaders, instead of focusing on their future, are engaged interminably in fads, fashions, brands, dating, partying etc. to the extent that the colleges and universities have now become centers of match-making rather than being places of education and grooming. This is a very sorry state of affairs and immediate measures need to be taken on both individual and government level to ensure a better environment to secure future for the youth of today. -UROOBA ALAM, Karachi, via e-mail, November 11.
