CAPE TOWN - The Castle Lager Proteas will continue with their fine-tuning processes in the upcoming Momentum ODI Series against Pakistan starting at Sahara Park Newlands on Sunday. The Proteas convincingly beat Pakistan 4-1 in the UAE, but are aware of the areas that still need improvement ahead of the ICC World Cup in 2015.
“We want to continue with the momentum we are developing in one-day cricket,” coach Russell Domingo said on Saturday. “We want to start finalising the structures and the group of players that we go with. We are going to alternate our bowling attack, there will be one or two guys that will need a break with another three games coming up against India. It’s all about giving some of the fringe players some game time and experience.”
The return of Jacques Kallis after an absence of nearly two years in this format is a welcome boost for the squad and gives the coaching staff the advantage of playing the extra batsman if needed. “Jacques is a fantastic cricketer,” Domingo said. “What he brings to the side is a lot of calmness and experience. Our allrounders have always been bowlers who can bat, he is equally good at both which is a massive plus for us.”

Pakistan will have some confidence after finally getting on to the scorecard when they levelled the T20 International series with a six-run win on Friday evening, but it’s back to 0-0 in the three-match encounter. “It’s a different format tomorrow,” Domingo said. “They played really well last night and they deserved to win. We have played good one-day cricket in the last series in the United Arab Emirates, so I think we can take a lot of confidence, having beaten them in their conditions.”
