ISLAMABAD - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) terming the PTI’s protest as ‘solo flight’ considers that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has undermined national unity and tried to divert public attention from its crumbling governance crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). “PTI has undermined the national unity on drone strikes and NATO supplies by solo act of sit-in and reduced national security issues to political scoring,” said JUI-F spokesman in his reaction on PTI’s Peshawar protest.
He said that ironically the PTI’s own chief minister, provincial president and speaker were not present. “Are they not angry over drone attacks,” asked JUI-F leader. He urged the PTI to focus on improving governance crisis of crumbling KPK government.
He said that symbolic sit-in by individual parties could not be a substitute for national response to sovereignty challenge of Pakistan due to drone attacks, instead all political parties, federal govt and provincial governments should forge a national consensus.
“If we really want to send a strong message to the US, Pakistan’s political establishment needs united response based on well thought out policy and no single political party regardless of its mandate and strength in Parliament can do so without national unity”, he observed.
The protest has already been registered by JI and other parties and JUI-F will also register a symbolic protest. “But will that be a strong message to the US on drone strikes, obviously not,” he added.
