ISLAMABAD - The two-day NUML Model United Nations (NMUN) 2013 started here at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Saturday with the theme "be friends to prosper. The conference inaugurated by Rector Maj Gen (Retd) Masood Hasan, brought ideals of debate, dialogue, fraternity, integration, exposure, harmony, nationalism and education.

Rector NUML Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan while speaking at the opening ceremony said, "Though the concept and nature of UN General Assembly forum is quite difficult to understand, the proceedings of the committees in NMUN, discussion session, and position papers would help students have an idea how the international body works". Moreover, it is pleasure to see that students are growing, flourishing and learning to exercise practically what they have learnt in their classes. This learning would go long way in terms of preparing students for their future lives and real issues faced by the entire world."

The focal person of NMUN Pashmeena Mughal informed this scribe, "MUN (Model United Nations) is the format of General Assembly platform with multiple committees to discuss & debate different world issues followed by their proposed resolutions".

It is a competition in which participants have to simulate the United Nation and its committees while being the diplomats/ delegates of particular country which is usually assigned by the host team. The delegates have to research properly on the assigned country and to talk on their behalf on all the issues and debates," she added.
