PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department carried out the one-day polio immunization campaign in Peshawar on Sunday where 754000 children of 97 union councils were administered polio drops.

Spokesperson city district administration Feroz Khan told this scribe that around 7000 personnel of police were deployed for polio workers security.

He said that there was complete ban on pillion riding from 7:00 Am to 5:00 Pm. The campaign was peacefully completed in 97 union councils of Peshawar which include five union councils of cantonment while the rest of 92 belonged to Peshawar city and rural areas.

Besides this, polio camps were also set up in railway stations, bus stops, schools and other scattered localities of Peshawar. There were total 4260 polio teams who participated in this campaign.

On the other hand, the provincial health has released the data of the previous campaign carried out in 21 districts of Peshawar. In the previous campaign 32,000 parents had refused polio vaccination campaign while 36,000 others were absent from their houses.

Despite the hectic efforts of World Health Organization and continuous campaign of the health department against polio, the number of total cases rose to 260, which is an alarming figure this year.
