Dubai-returned trader gunned down over monetary issue

HAFIZABAD
A Dubai-returned local businessman was shot at and killed in Mubarak Colony here in broad daylight on Sunday, as a sequel to a monetary dispute.
The police have registered a case against Iftikhar Shah, his wife Samina Iram, Khurram Mumtaz alias Bokhari Shah alias Double Shah and have arrested Samina Iram while the others are at large.
According to police source, deceased Sikandar Hayat had lent some money to Iftikhar Shah and Sikandar had recently returned from Dubai. Iftikhar Shah contacted him on the phone to visit his house and get back his money. However, as soon as Sikandar reached near his residence, Iftikhar along with other accused allegedly opened indiscriminate firing, killing him on the spot. The police have shifted the dead body to the city morgue for autopsy.
LAWYER ROBBED: A young local lawyer of Mohallah Bahawalpura was deprived of his bike and cash amounting to Rs5,000 by two armed bandits on busiest Kassoke Road Sunday morning. Advocate Sheikh Atif was on the way to District Courts and when he reached near Gali Depotwali, two armed bandits intercepted him. They snatched bike (HZK-119) and Rs5,000 from him at gunpoint.
The police have registered a case and are investigating.
Seminar: Speakers at a seminar held to express solidarity with the brick kiln workers, have stressed upon the authorities concerned to eliminate exploitation of brick kiln workers.
They also demanded elimination of injustices towards the workers. Some speakers alleged that the workers were not being paid fair return for their services and called upon the authorities to ensure wages to the workers according to the government policy.
The seminar which was organised by Brick-Kiln Workers Union president Ghulam Abbas Haider was addressed among others by District Officer (Coordination) Mushtaq Ahmad Supra, District Social Security Officer Nemat Ullah Khan Niazi, representative of NGO Ali Iftikhar Syed and other religious and social workers.
