For some odd reasons , I was never an admirer of Malik Riaz, the chairman of Bahria town. My perception of him was purely based on what ever is published in the newspapers and shown on the electronic media. There are always some conflicting reports about his modus operandi in acquisition of land and developing Bahria towns in different cities. There is however , one thing clear and that is the high standard of developement and town planning. I had an opportunity to visit Bahria town phase 8 Rawalpindi recently. It was indeed a unique experience to have gone around the entire phase. The roads were wide and well marked. The developed areas gave a clean look. There is no issue of loadshedding. The residential areas catered for all sagements of the society. There were plots measuring from 5 marlas to 2 kanals. The commercial areas along the Bahria expressways gave a world class look. Also there was sufficient space earmarked for parks , educational and recreational activities. The entire phase 8 gave a much better look than Islamabad, in all respects , especially from the cleanliness point of view. In fact you can compare it with any city in the developed world.

As I said earlier, I was never his admirer and perhaps I am not even now, but give the ‘devil his due’ for providing such a high class of living environments in Bahria towns to all sections of the society.
