LAHORE - Wapda chairman Zafar Mehmood has said that Wapda's sportsmen’s sincere efforts and hard work bore fruit n form of medal winning feats in international events.

The sportsmen, who brought laurels for the country, included M Nauh Dastgir Butt, Usman Amjad Rathore and Mehmood Heera and their coaches and managers.

Wapda, Member (Water), Member (Power), Member (Finance), Managing Director (Administration)/President Wapda Sports Board, Secretary Wapda, Chief Executive Officers of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and senior officers of Wapda Sports Board were present on the occasion.

Speaking at a ceremony to honour Wapda’s two medal winner weightlifters and one powerlifter, Zafar said: “It was the result of their devoted efforts which led them to success to win medals in their respective events, weightlifting and powerlifting. I hope Wapda players will continue to bring laurels for Pakistan in international events in the days to come.” At the end, the Wapda chairman also presented souvenirs and cash prizes to them.

Wapda weightlifter M Nauh Dastgir Butt won two gold medals, one each in junior and youth competitions, and one bronze medal in senior competition during Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held at Pune, India last month. Wapda weightlifter Usman Amjad Rathore secured silver medal in senior competition of the championship. Wapda powerlifter Mehmood Heera won silver medal in 110 kg-weight category during Asian Bench Press Powerlifting Championship held at Muscat, Oman in October this year.
