Rawalpindi-A police officer narrowly escaped an armed attack by a criminal at Rawat Bazaar, informed official sources on Friday.

However, the attacker managed to flee after leaving the weapon on scene, they said.

Police registered a case against the attacker identified as Kahoo.

According to sources, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Ikram, who is posted at Police Station Rawat, carried out a raid in Rawat Bazaar following source report about presence of Kahoo in the market. On seeing the police party, the criminal opened indiscriminate firing at ASI Muhammad Akram. Fortunately, the police party including ASI remained unhurt, sources said.

Police seized arms and ammunition from the crime scene.

Station House Officer (SHO) PS Rawat Haji Tariq, when contacted, confirmed the incident. Meanwhile, a senior police officer told The Nation that ASI was attacked by Kahoo over old enmity.

On the other hand, Mandra police, following orders of City Police Officer (CPO) Abbas Ahsan, have launched crackdown against drug peddlers and arrested two suspected smugglers namely Salman Gull and Sajid Mehmood.

Police also recovered 3300 grams of Charas from the possession of the smugglers. CPO appreciated the efforts of SHO PS Mandra SI Anwaar Ul Haq.
