ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has rejected the recent legislation of the government regarding the electoral reforms, terming it grave violation of the Constitution.
The meeting of PDM chaired by its Chief Maulana Fazl Rehman was attended by all the heads of Opposition parties some by video link. The Opposition alliance also said that the judiciary will have to restore it’s honour again, saying that fingers were pointed towards them by many.
While talking to media after the meeting, PDM Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the PDM rejected fake legislation over EVMs and I-Voting passed by the PTI government. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the judiciary’s integrity had come into question after recent allegations from their own corridors.
He maintained that the fake legislation regarding right of vote to overseas Pakistanis was a curb on the constitutional power of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He said those who plotted against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his party and other political leadership was infact a conspiracy against the country and democracy.
He said that they respected the country’s courts but we are hurt by them as well, linking his argument with the Rana Shamim affidavit and the alleged former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar’s audio clip.
PDM terms recent electoral reforms violation of Constitution
Talking about the role and status of judciary in the current situation, he said that fingers were pointed over the role of judiciary, saying that with a heavy heart, they thought judiciary will have to regain their status through their character.
The PDM leader said that these conspiracies were the main reason why Pakistan was facing an economic and financial issues.
Meanwhile, the meeting of PDM failed to reach consensus over the final date of Long March towards the federal capital.
The next meeting of PDM will be held on December 6.
In the Press conference, Fazlur Rehman also said that the people of Pakistan were demanding Independent Election Commission, saying that they will never accept such curb on ECP.
Lashing out at the incumbent government, Fazl said that instead of providing jobs to masses over 5 million people so far were forced to joblessness.
Speaking about the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), he said the government wanted to hold elections using the already rejected technology by the world, saying that it was move towards systematic rigging.
Terming State Bank as a branch of IMF, adding, country was in huge financial crisis due to failed policies.
On the other hand, sources told The Nation that the opposition parties during the meeting agreed to move hard over Saqib Nisar’s alleged audio clip.
The sources claimed that PDM has decided to raise the issue on Audio Clip on national level.
