ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted three committees for implementation of laws related to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and I-voting passed by the Parliament last week.
The first committee is formed under the supervision of Secretary ECP over the EVMs and I-voting and its mandate is to highlight technologies used in election process, the international standards for it and best practices in this regard.
The committee is also mandated to highlight the procedure of using EVMs during elections, the procedure of I-voting and also observe the technical and functional capabilities and abilities of EVMs.
The committee is given responsibility to highlight procedure of I-voting and also the overall process for the purpose.
The second committee is formed under the supervision of additional secretary administration, which is mandated to find out the financial implications over the EVMs and I-voting and also to present pilot testing and real use mechanism to the commission.
The committee is also given responsibility to inform the Commission of budget necessities so that the Commission further inform the government about the matter of budget and space for storage of machines.
The third committee is formed under the supervision of director general (DG) law which will work on the rules and laws related to the EVMs and I-voting and will inform the Commission of issues in these laws and rules.
