Bajaur ground, air attacks kill 35

PESHAWAR/HANGU - At least 30 militants were killed and eight tribal elders gunned down on Thursday in two separate incidents in Bajaur and Orakzai agencies respectively. According to details, around 30 militants and dozens other sustained serious injuries when security forces pounded the suspected hideouts of militants through gunship helicopters and artillery in the scattered parts of Bajaur Agency on Thursday. According to ISPR sources security forces bombarded the suspected hideouts of militants in Charmang, Nawagai, Kohi and Bara area with gunship helicopters and artillery and inflicted heavy losses on militants. The security forces also continued their advance up to 22 kilometres towards Tangi and Juwar area of Tehsil Tangi. In these areas security forces claimed that they demolished many underground bunkers of the militants. For maintaining their possession security forces established check posts in Khar and Loi areas, which are considered to be the stronghold of militants. Besides, the Agency Administration of Bajaur has also initiated a search operation in Navekaly, Bilal Abad and Serai area where they have held dozens of suspected persons. They have also demolished the house of a prominent commander Musafar Khan in the same area. Meanwhile, unknown persons fired two rockets on the check posts of the security forces, which hit the nearby trenches of the security forces in Sadiq Abad area. However, no loss of life or property was reported. There was complete normalcy in the Agency Headquarters and people were busy in their routine business activities, while Salarzi tribe continuously set on fire numerous houses of militants in various areas of Bajaur Agency. Meanwhile, some unknown militants in Babarki Sahib area of Orakzai Agency killed around eight tribal elders. The tribal elders were coming back after attending a peace Jirga, held by various tribes at Utman Khel to discuss law and order situation, when some unknown ambushed persons fired at them, killing eight of the elders and injuring many others. The killed elders have been identified as Mir Zali, Zarmat Khan, Jamshed, Hadi, Gulab Khan, Zain Din, Sharif Khan and Abdul Mateen Khan. They belonged to Feroz Khel tribe. The political administration has confirmed the incident.
