KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on behalf of Sindh government has announced a relief package for the heirs of the martyrs of October 18 tragedy that includes a residential plot, financial assistance for the construction of houses and government jobs according to the academic qualification and skill of dependants of the deceased as desired and willed by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He made the announcement here on Thursday at the CM house where a function was held in the memory of martyrs who laid down their lives while welcoming their beloved leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto when she arrived in Karachi on that fateful day after eight years exile. More than 150 plots measuring 120 square years each would be given to the dependants of the martyrs and amount would be sanctioned for the construction of the houses. The documents of the plots were shown to the gathering on the occasion. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that President Asif Ali Zardari who is the Co-Chairman of the PPP would personally hand over the documents of the plot, employment letters and the cheques of the amount for the construction the house soon. He said it was the wishes and the desire of beloved Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that all those who had suffered due to twin bomb blast on Sharae Faisal should be looked after and given all possible assistance. He recalled that all those who laid down their lives had already been given Rs0.4 million each and the latest relief was in addition to what they had been given earlier. He made it clear that all that was being done for the martyrs and their dependants was not to compensate for their sacrifice but to help them in the hour of their need. It was a great human tragedy of unfathomable magnitude which had not only touched the hearts internationally but it had severely pained the party which had always fought for the welfare of the common man. President PPP Karachi division Syed Faisal Raza Abidi who was also present at the function paid tributes to the martyrs and readout all the names of those who laid down their lives while welcoming their beloved leader. On this occasion, he announced that the dependants of the martyrs would also be looked after by the party. He said the party on its behalf will take care of all the financial needs of education of the children of the martyrs and the parents of the martyrs would be given money for their medical treatment. The chief minister said that not only the Karachi chapter of the party but the provincial chapter would also support the plans that had been just given by Mr. Abidi for the children and parents of the martyrs. He said that there is no precedence in the history of political movement when the party workers instead of running away for the safety, rushed towards the vehicle carrying their beloved leader after the first blast and it was in the second blast that all those trying to save their leader and provide relief to the injured themselves drank the chalice of martyrdom. He paid tributes to the courage of the party workers who threw caution to the wind in rushing forward to save their beloved leader who they thought needed them. He disclosed as to how the beloved party leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto thought about the fallen and injured party workers. She personally went to the local hospitals to inquire about the injured despite advised from the then administration that she should not go in the public for security reasons. She had the cause of the welfare of the party members more close to her heart then her own safety, added Syed Qaim Ali Shah. He said that according to the wishes of party leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, a monument would be built at the place where the martyrs fell to the evil design of the perpetrators of the gruesome act. The monument design had been finalised and approved and President Asif Ali Zardari would himself inaugurate it soon. Almost all the important officials of the party belonging to various districts of the province and a number of ministers were present on the occasion.  However conspicuous by their absence were some senior ministers from the function. Hundreds of persons that included large number of dependants of the martyrs were also present in the CM house. At the start of the function the gathering offered fateha for the soul of the departed leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the martyrs. The attendants in unison raised slogans in praise of their leader and the party.
