LAHORE - The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Thursday arrested a former MNA of PML-Q, Mian Asif for involvement in fraudulent sale of 110 Kanal piece of land owned by LDA to different people, disclosed the spokesman of the ACE here on Friday. Interestingly, Mian Asif only possessed four Kanal land in Mustafa Town but he illegally and fraudulently sold 166 plots adjoining to his land with a market value of Rs one billion to different people. The plots he sold were all owned by LDA. The fraud was committed in connivance with the LDA officials including Director Town Planning Qazi Masood, Record Keeper Shafi Muhammad and Abdur Rasheed Qanoongo, spokesman maintained. He said that the scandal had been under scrutiny for the last eight years but accused being an influential politician managed to hush up the case whenever taken by ACE. The inquiry started about eight years back when one Mian Shehbaz, a relative of the accused lodged complaint to ACE and LDA informing both the agencies about the fraud of Mian Asif, spokesman added. He claimed that in LDA inquiry the accused was also found guilty during last government but the action could not be taken, as he was MNA at that time. Though the inquiry was completed during last government the case was shelved. Then the applicant moved to the Sessions Court which passed orders to register an FIR of the case. Meanwhile, applicant also brought the matter into the notice of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. ACE registered an FIR against MNA and his other three accomplices on Thursday but only Mian Asif has been arrested from Lahore. The ACE officials are conducting raids to arrest his other accomplices. It is worth mentioning here that Mian Asif is an old Leaguer. He also contested general elections held in 2008 from NA-121 but was defeated by PML-N MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmad. He was elected as MNA in the non-party elections held in 1985 under the leadership of Zia-ul-Haq.
