ISLAMABAD (APP) - The government will reduce prices of edible oil within next three to four days to provide relief to the consumers, Advisor to Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said. Talking to media after chairing the meeting to review the prices of edible oil, the advisor said that prices of edible oil have decreased in the international market and the government wanted to pass the benefit to the masses. Wattoo said that there was no shortage of edible oil in the country, saying that 10,000 tons of edible oil was in stock of Utility Stores Corporation. "The Ministry of Industries and Production is continuously monitoring the prices as well as demand and supply position in both domestic and international market" he remarked. Wattoo directed the MD USC to approach other edible producing companies for providing oil to utility stores for creating competition among them, which would decrease prices and thus provide relief to the masses. The meeting was informed that at present there were total 140 units involved in solvent extraction and processing of oil and ghee in the country with an installed capacity of 3.3 million tons per annum. Out of 140 units, 45 units are involved in solvent extraction and the remaining 95 units are involved in edible oil/ghee processing. Among others, the meeting was attended by the member of Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association, All Pakistan Solvent Extractors Association and officials from Ministry of Food and Industries.
