"Pakistan being the frontline state in the war against terrorism has suffered the most and has sacrificed more lives in this war than any other country of the world" said Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani while talking to BBC. As a matter of fact, this is not the first time that Pakistan has to suffer physically, economically and politically for being an ally of US in its various wars. During the Afghan Jihad (1979-1989) also, Pakistan was the country that suffered most casualties and was also left with two of the most poisonous remnants of that war; the Kalashnikov culture and Islamic extremism. Prime Minister Gilani has drawn attention of the world community to a very important issue. Pakistan has become very insecure for its citizens due to the suicide attacks being launched on its cities as a direct aftermath of this new American war. The world needs to realize how essential a stable Pakistan is for South Asia as well as the wider Middle East region. Need of the hour is to address the root cause of terrorism that lies in economic deprivation of the Afghan belt that stretches from Afghanistan to the Tribal Areas of Pakistan. -ALIZEH ZULFIQAR, October 4.
