Lawson awaits meeting with new PCB chief

LAHORE - Geoff Lawson, the Australian coach of the Pakistan team is waiting to have a meeting with the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt. Reports say that an official of the board is making up things for the meeting. A report quoted Salim Altaf that "very soon, I am arranging a meeting between the two (Lawson and Butt)". However, Butt denied reports that he described Lawson as "useless". "We may issue a rejoinder to my statement. As a person, he (Lawson) is a nice man but he is not fit for our job," Butt said from Lahore. Meanwhile, coach Lawson has been taking time off and playing golf with his support staff regularly, security at National Cricket Academy (NCA) revealed. Lawson has been provided a furnished house in the academy premises. "Lawson goes for a dinner in the car (provided by the PCB) and then sends back car and returns walking", a security personnel said. Under Lawson, Pakistan lost Test series to South Africa and India last year (both 1-0) and reached the final of the inaugural Twenty20 world championship. It has not played a Test in 2008 but has a strong record in one-day matches, although it failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup earlier this year.
