KARACHI - The lawyers' representatives have announced to hold a public court on 3rd November at MA Jinnah Road in protest against the imposition of emergency and removal of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and other judges of the Supreme Court. They took the decision to this effect a general body meeting of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) here on Thursday. President KBA Mehmoodul Hassan, Secretary General Naeem Qureshi, Sallahudden Gandapore and other senior lawyers addressed the meeting. They said the lawyers would stage a sit-in at MA Jinnah Road on 3rd November along with representatives of civil society, labour leaders, students, political workers and other people belonging to different walks of life. Later, a public court will also be held at the venue. They denied the prevailing perception that lawyers' movement has been weakened and said that their struggle was still continued and strengthening with the passage of time. The speakers demanded immediate and unconditional reinstatement of the deposed judges including deposed CJP Ifikhar Chaudhry, adding that the lawyers' fraternity as well as the nation would never compromise on the rule of law and an independent judiciary. They chided the lawyers, who deceived the movement, saying that, by doing so, these people had earned a bad name for themselves and people will never forgive them. Earlier, on the call of Pakistan Lawyers Representatives Council (PLRC), the lawyers boycotted the legal proceedings at the City Court Karachi and Malir Court. The lawyers also staged a protest demonstration against the government for not restoring deposed judges. They were carrying placards and banners while chanting slogans against the government for not fulfilling their demands. They set up a camp in front of the KBA office where two lawyers including Advocate Syed Fateh Shah and Advocate Taj Ahmed observed token hunger strike. The protesters chanted anti-government slogans while demanding the restoration of pre-November-3 2007 judiciary, reinstatement of deposed CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry and rein in the price-hike. The lawyers vowed to continue their struggle till achieving the targets. Later, they took out a rally at MA Jinnah Road and blocked it for vehicular traffic for some time.
