OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Central Council of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan held its meeting here on Sunday. The meeting held under IEEEP President Engineer Tahir Basharat Cheema to finalize the holding of the National Conference on Electric Power Deficit which is being held on October 29 at the Main Auditorium of University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. Eminent scholars would present their papers on the occasion. About 400 delegates from all over Pakistan and abroad have confirmed their participation. The Conference is being held to support the GoP in its endeavors to overcome the present power crises. The papers would be on the subjects of Reservoirs in the National Economy, Hydrocarbon & LNG Route, Coal Power Generation, Hydro Power- Short Term & Medium Term Solutions, Large Hydropower Projects, Genocide on the Indus & the Hydro Bomb, Hydrocarbon Scenario in the Short Term, Solar Thermal and Geo Thermal solutions, Coal Gasification, Initiatives of the GoP in the RE Sector, RE as part of the Energy Mix, Plans for Nuclear Power, Engineering Management, Power Demand Projection, Issues & impediments in Thar Coal development, and Thermal Fuel Mix etc. The speakers include Engr. Ahmad Khan Bhatti, Engr. Munawar Baseer Ahmad, Engr. Akhtar Ali, Engr. Suleman Najib Khan, Engr. Arif Alauddin, Engr. Khalid Mansoor and Engr. Shahid Aslam. Government officials from the MoF, MoWP, PAEC, MoP& NR and the Planning Commission would also participate in the National Conference. The UET Lahore is collaborating with the IEEEP to hold the conference, while Punjab University is sending a large contingent under its Vice-chancellor. At the conclusion of the full day Conference, the panel of experts comprising M/s Engineer Muhammad Saleem Arif, Prof. Dr. S.M. Bhutta, Engineer Karamatulla Chaudhry and Col.(rtd) Ikramullah Khan will give their recommendations. This is worth to mention here that IEEEP is the registered body for dissemination of technical knowledge pertaining to the fields of electrical and electronics engineering, inclusive of avionics, mechatronics, medical engineering and computer engineering disciplines.
