Qaim reshuffles Sindh Cabinet

KARACHI Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah scrambled for changes in the Sindh Cabinet soon after the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional vacated two ministerial portfolios. In what is seen as a significant parley, PPP leaders Sindh Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq and Provincial Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro on Saturday succeeded to get the approval of PML-F chief Pir Pagara for changes in the portfolios of ministers from his party. Issued late on Saturday night from the Chief Ministers Secretariat, a handout said the provincial chief executive changed the portfolios of the ministers and advisers in the Sindh Cabinet. According to a notification, the portfolio for information technology, which was earlier held by the PML-Fs Imitiaz Ahmed Shaikh, has been assigned to Muhammad Raza Haroon of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. Imitiaz Shaikh will now have the portfolio for special education, which was previously assigned to Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi of the PPP. Rizvi has been put in charge of the forest ministry. Likewise, Jam Madad of the PML-F has been allotted the portfolio for science and technology a new department in the province. He has left the portfolio for youth affairs for the MQMs Faisal Sabzwari. Jadoon Akhtar of the PPP will continue with the portfolio for transport department. As per the notification, the Auqaf and religious affairs (department) has been bifurcated. Dr Muhammad Rafiq Bhanbhan of the PML-F will retain the office of Auqaf, while the portfolio for religious affairs has been assigned to the MQMs Abdul Haseeb.
