LAHORE  - A police inspector, who had been battling for life since Friday, succumbed to injuries at a local hospital on Wednesday morning, police said.

Inspector Rana Shahid had sustained bullet wounds during a shootout which took place in the Harbanspura police vicinity as the officer resisted against a road robbery attempt on Friday. One of the robbers was also killed on the spot in the shootout. The policeman was admitted to the services hospital, where he was pronounced as dead on early Wednesday. An alleged robber had been killed while his accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene during the crossfire.

Police sources said that the inspector along with his wife and three children had just reached the residence of his in-laws in the Canal Bank society when two motorcyclists held up his family at gunpoint and demanded cash and valuables.

The robbers opened straight fire on the police officer as he tried to overpower the bandits. The officer also took out his gun and retaliated. As a result, one of the robbers was shot dead. 

FOUND DEAD: A 20-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances from the Shahdara Town police limits. Police said the man, yet to be identified, was lying dead alongside a road in the Barkat Town.
