KARACHI - Targeted operation continued in the city while police claimed to have arrested a target killer involved in dozen cases of target killing.

Nabi Bux police claimed to have arrested a target killer during a raid in Shoe Market area of Garden.

The arrested accused was identified as Imran alias Japani, however, his companion who has yet to be identified was managed to escape. SHO Aslam Pervez said the accused was affiliated with a political party.

 During initial investigation, he revealed his involvement in around half dozen cases of target killings, including Lyari gangsters and political workers. Further investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, rangers recovered five M-16 rifles and two machineguns from North Karachi area. Sources said the weapons were recovered from Muhammad Shah graveyard which was buried in an artificial grave.

The weapons belonged to Nato forces and were recovered on the information provided by the arrested killers. However, the officials concerned were unavailable for comments when contacted.

Karachi mall fire put out

Monitoring Desk adds: After a firefight that continued for hours, the firefighters succeeded in extinguishing the blaze that broke out in a shopping mall near Dalmia Road in Karachi on Wednesday, a private TV channel reported.

According to sources, the fire broke out inside the storage area of a shoe retailer. The fire quickly spread to the surrounding shops. Due to the heavy smoke some shoppers fell unconscious and were evacuated with the help of rescue team and volunteers, including shop keepers and area residents.

Taking advantage of the commotion, some miscreants tried to commit loot and plunder. Police resorted to aerial firing to disperse a large crowd that gathered outside the mall which the miscreants used to their advantage.
