RAWALPINDI - The police officials, instead of controlling the surging crime rate in the city, have themselves got involved in dubious activities as over 100 bottles of liquor were recovered from the car of gunman of a senior police officer here on Wednesday.

The accused police constable-cum-bootlegger was identified as Naseer Ahmed (C-5700), resident of Shafi Colony Tahli Mohri, also deputed on security of Superintendent of Police Rawal Division Syed Jamaat Ali Bukhari as gunman.

According to details, a police team, headed by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Raja Liaquat, on a tip off, signalled a Suzuki VXR (LXW-7465) being driven by Naseer Ahmed to stop at GPO Chowk, Saddar.

 Upon conducting of search, police team found 100 bottles of liquor in the car and arrested the driver on the spot.

Later, he was put behind the lock up with filing a case against him.

The news of arrest of the cop spread like jungle fire as a large number of police officials started calling the investigation officer Raja Liaquat to give favour to the accused. This forced the ASI stating that Naseer was suspended a week ago by the City Police Officer (CPO) but the lie of ASI was exposed by Sub Inspector Noshad, the reader to SP Rawal, saying “Naseer was not suspended rather on duty of guarding SP Sahib”.

A source disclosed to The Nation that a police team of same police station held Jahangir alias Vicky, the brother of Naseer Ahmed, along with 96 liquor bottles at Kamran Chowk and later filed a case against him.
