LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is desirous of good ties with its neighbouring states as it holds peace and development of the region in priority.

The chief minister said this while talking to Ambassador of Norway in Pakistan Leif H Larsen who met him on Thursday. Matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors were discussed in the meeting. Norwegian Ambassador also offered to provide modern training to Punjab police.

The chief minister said that there are strong friendly relations between Norway and Pakistan and a large number of overseas Pakistanis are living in Norway. He said that there is a need for strengthening trade relations between the two countries. He said that Norway has extended commendable cooperation in improving public health facilities and development of different social sectors in Pakistan.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Norwegian investors could promote cooperation in hydro projects, agriculture, dairy farming and other sectors. He said that Pakistan is a peaceful country and wants good relations with its neighbours. He said that Pak army is conducting a successful operation against the enemies of peace in North Waziristan and the whole nation is standing behind its armed forces. He also welcomed the offer of training of Punjab police by Norway.

Ambassador of Norway Leif H Larsen said that his country wants to promote relations in different sectors with Pakistan especially Punjab. He said that promotion of trade and economic relations between the two countries is the need of the hour. He said he is pleased to see the pace of rapid development in the province.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned suicide attack on JUI-F Ameer Maulana Fazalur Rehman in Quetta. He expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in the suicide attack and said that those playing with the lives of innocent people deserve no leniency. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured. The chief minister also telephoned Fazalur Rehman and inquired about his wellbeing.

Separately, Shahbaz Sharif has said that the PML-N government is making serious efforts for resolving problems facing the country as well as to steer it out of crises. He said that the promise of bringing the country out of darkness will be fulfilled and the delay caused in the completion of power projects due to sit-ins will be made up with hard work and determination.

He said this while talking to party legislators on Thursday. He said that the PML-N government would complete the journey of progress and development as public service and raising living standard of the masses is the agenda of the party.

He said that untimely sit-ins and protest politics have given a setback to national economy and there is a need to display a spirit of courage and commitment to put the country on the road to progress and development. He stressed upon Assembly Members to utilise all their energies for resolving peoples’ problems.

Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Housing Tanvir Aslam Malik presented a cheque for Rs11,20,000 to the chief minister for flood affectees and IDPs. Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the spirit of help and assistance to the distressed people. He said that Punjab government was extending all out assistance to the flood affectees and IDPs and every penny of donations was being spent on the assistance of the needy people. He said that those helping distressed brethren and sisters would be rewarded in this world and the world hereafter.

NOTICE: Taking notice of aerial firing in Sheikhupura during the by-elections, Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the police for immediate arrest persons involved in the firing. He issued instructions for taking strict action under the law against the responsible. He said that no one was above the law therefore the elements involved in aerial firing should be brought to justice without any delay.
