LAHORE - City police yesterday claimed to have smashed two gangs of robbers by arresting their five members.

A police spokesman said the team of Factory Area police also seized eight stolen motorcycles, mobile phones, and firearms from their possession. The crime suspects were identified by police as Asif alias Asoo, Umar, Gulfam, Shahzad alias Kaka, and Allah Ditta alias Gull Khan.

The arrests were part of the police clampdown on street criminals. The divisional police officers are supervising the campaign while special teams are constituted at police station level for this purpose.

During preliminary investigations, the bandits confessed to police their involved in more than 30 cases of street crimes.

The spokesman said the bandits had a crime history.

DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team, said the spokesman.
