ISLAMABAD - The State Bank of Pakistan has frozen bank accounts of 4,000 suspects named in the Fourth Schedule. Talking to BBC on Sunday, SBP spokesman Abid Qamar said the accounts of those persons have been frozen who had been named in the Fourth Schedule of Anti Terrorist Act 1979. The list of such persons was provided by the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), he added.
He said the State Bank had so far received four lists for freezing the accounts (of terror suspects), which had been forwarded to all the commercial banks. The banks have also been directed to present the net amount of the frozen accounts to the SBP, he added. In September, the central bank had issued a directive to all commercial banks, development finance institutions and micro finance banks to legally proceed against those persons named in the Nacta list. In July this year, the Nacta had said that it had sealed some 126 bank accounts that were being operated for financing the terrorists and had seized more than one billion rupees amount from these accounts. Quoting sources, a private TV channel reported that the amount seized from these 400 accounts is Rs350 million.
