A sudden fired engulfed at Press Information Department (PID) building in Islamabad on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the record room of the PID was completely burnt as the result of the fire, which started on the sixth floor of the building and soon started to spread on the other floors of the building.
Rizwan, an official from the fire department told that 16 fire vehicles and 175 firefighters took part in the operation.
Offices of Gilgit-Baltistan Secretariat, Zakat Audit and Election Commission of Pakistan are also located near the PID building.
According to police sources, the fire was caused after a gas cylinder exploded, the building has been evacuated and no loss of life reported.
Officials from the Capital Development Authority also reached the site of the fire.
Information Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said a committee has been set up to ascertain the causes of fire at Press Information Department building.
While talking to media he said, the committee will be headed by Secretary Information Shafqat Jalil and will explore the incident from various angles.
He said as per his information, no human or material loss occurred in the incident and the record and archives of PID are completely safe as fire could not reach those areas.
Information Minister said PID building is old and we were already considering to shift it to some other place.
He said these incidents are a continuity of the mismanagement of the previous government.
Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said, their government has started efforts to make positive changes in all departments. He said archives of PID are being digitalized for their preservation.
Meanwhile, the Information Secretary Shafqat Jalil said it will be too early to predict about the cause of fire and the damage done by it.
