Islamabad, Kabul to enhance intelligence sharing to counter security threats

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to enhance intelligence sharing to counter terrorism and security threats.

Official sources told The Nation that top security and intelligence officials of both the countries met in Kabul separately during the visit of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to Kabul on Thursday. According to sources both sides discussed in detail the possible security threats posed by terrorists, based in Afghanistan to both the countries and agreed to cooperate in counter terrorism (CT).

Pakistani officials shared its concern over militant operations of TTP against Pakistan from across the border and sought firm action from the Afghan government against terrorists.

A high level Afghan delegation would visit Pakistan next month which would hold a follow-up discussion with Pakistani officials on the agenda points including security and CT issues discussed during the visit of the foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Pakistan at present is facing a fresh wave of terror attacks from TTP and other terrorist outfits which are operating along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Miscreants in Balochistan are also having safe heavens in Afghanistan from where they operate against Pakistan.
