10 bodies of swimmers recovered

KARACHI - Edhi divers have recovered 10 bodies of ill-fated young swimmers from sea near Gadani beach in Hub area Tuesday afternoon, Edhi Ambulance and police sources said on Tuesday. They said that the divers have rescued three persons alive from the sea. Their condition is stable and they have been sent to their homes. Edhi sources said that family members of victims have taken the bodies to their homes without autopsy in ambulances specially arranged for them. They said that six divers and more than a dozen volunteers have taken part in rescue operation which lasted for more than three hours. They said that a special bus was also despatched to the scene to carry the bodies. A police official from Hub said the victims were swimming in the deep sea without safety gadgets like life jackets or swimming tubes and neglected all the warnings. Suddenly, a big wave swallowed them, taking further deep into the sea, he said and added that nearby people and their families started shouting for help and some of them immediately rang up police and Edhi Foundation. He said police and Edhi divers rushed to the scene and began rescue operation. He said that most of the victims belonged to old Sabzi Mandi, while a couple from Manghopir, Baldia and Hub Chowki. He said that hundreds of people had thronged Gadani beach on the second day of Eid. It becomes very difficult to control such a large number of people which are bent upon to swim in high tides, he noted. Police official said that beach was cleared after the tragic incident. Following are the names of 10 ill-fated young picnickers who drowned while swimming near Gadani beach in Hub area Tuesday afternoon, Edhi Ambulance and police sources said. They have been identified as Jahanzaib 18, Abdul Majeed 25 (Manghopir), Kashif 18 (old Sabzi Mandi), Khurram 24 (old Sabzi Mandi), Imran 22 (old Sabzi Mandi), Azam 18 (Manghopir), Amir Hussain 25 (Baldia) Bashir Ahmed 30 (Hub Chowki), Changez Khan 18 (old Sabzi Mandi) and Sajjad 18 (Baldia). One injured has been identified as Abdus Sattar 20 (Manghopir) Police said the victims were swimming in the deep sea neglecting all the warnings.
