LAHORE (APP) - Weather pundits see no respite from the current spell of dry weather with no chance of rain during the current month. Talking to APP here Wednesday, Director Meteorological Department, Amjad Shad said that the Alnino factor has been the main cause of the current dry spell in the country. He said that westerly waves have been reported in the Northern areas of the country but these are not strong enough to cause rains. Pakistan is not the only country affected by the dry weather pattern but also all the countries from Thailand to Afghanistan in the Sub-continent have been hit by the dry weather, he observed. He said that Pakistan receives less rains during the months of July and August adding that the country has received 20 to 30 per cent below normal Monsoon rains during the current year. About the existing hot weather, the official said that the temperatures would stay between 35 and 40-degree celesius till October 15 which would gradually decrease to 30 degree celesius by the month of November. Rains are expected with the advent of winter during the month of December in Pakistan, he said. The local meteorological department Wednesday forecast mainly dry weather for the country with chances of isolated thunderstorm/rain for Kashmir and adjoining areas during the next 48 hours. Railway passengers demand in-time trains Railway passengers have demanded of the chairman railways to take steps for movement of trains as per their schedule to facilitate the passengers. Hundreds of thousands passengers will be returning from their home towns to their work places after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with their families but late arrival and departure of trains are creating lot of disturbance for them. This was stated by Irfan Ali Malik a passenger of 214-down Lahore-Narowal train while talking to APP at Lahore Railway Station on Tuesday. He said that the train packed with passenger reached Lahore two-hours late against its scheduled time, causing disturbance for him and his family in the hot weather. He demanded extra coaches to cater requirement of the Lahore-Narowal sections, which is one of the most profit earning branch lines of Pakistan Railways. The railway management need to be held responsible for their poor functioning and making the travelling through train a fatigue instead of a pleasure, said another passenger Allama Shamshad. The corrupt railway officials make the trains late, specially on special occasions like Eid to discredit railways and force passengers to travel by road, for which they get bribe from the transporters, another passenger Shahid Bhatti viewed. The passengers demanded of the chairman and General Manager railways to probe into the reasons behind delay in movements of the trains and punish the culprits.
