LAHORE - Despite the lofty claims, some black sheep in the City Police continue to patronise illegal business, while the police high ups due to their conventional laziness are not only depriving the deserving people of justice but are becoming a stigma for their own department, The Nation reliably learnt on Thursday. The victims have no other options except to visit the police stations round-the-clock to obey police officials orders to help them in arresting the culprits. Two selected cases of different nature of crime clearly show that how most of the SHOs and investigation in-charges perform their duties 'diligently. A complainant Syed Zaheer Shah lodged an application at Icchra Police Station on July 26 and got FIR 614/10 registered praying that his close relative Muhammad Ramazan alias Maana had stolen Rs3 million from his home. Police raided the suspects home after the lapse of 12 days when the accused had sold all gold ornaments weighing 73 tolas to a jeweller Amjad at cheap rates. On 13th day of incident, he was arrested and he confessed the theft. The Police also recovered Rs0.450 million and a Honda bike from his possession. The complainant was also asked to visit police station on daily basis, as his help was required to conduct raids on the homes of other accused. According to brother-in-law of the accused who approached ASI Hanif Junior, former hockey player and asked him about further development, but the ASI categorically threatened him of dire consequences and kicked him away from Ichra police station. Talking to this scribe, the applicant Zaheer Shah said he also paid Rs5,000 to police investigator Riaz Rasheed as gratification in order to expedite the process before Eid-ul-Fiter but so far all his efforts remained fruitless and culprits are still at large. Meanwhile in another incident, police sources revealed the illegal business of brothel houses and drugs peddling were in full swing under the alleged patronisation of Chowki Guldasht Town In-charge SI Safdar Shahzad. According to reports, police arrested two alleged drugs peddlers namely Riaz and Imran alias Mani but released them after receiving gratification. Sources said SI Safdar has refused to take any action against different alleged drugs smugglers including Muneer alias Muneera, resident of Chungi Bazaar, Nazeer alias Nazeera, Papu Lamba, resident of Imail Town, Abbas alias Abbasa, Laada, Riaz, Taidi, Wali Khan and Jutt Bao Wala after receiving bribe. Moreover, source added that police also patronising accused Nusrat Bibi, Sonia, Razia, Khurram, Sheraz, Shakeel, Akbar and Saleem for allegedly running brothel houses. The residents of the area have appealed to Chowki In-charge to take action against these brothel houses but to no avail. The SP Cantt Jawwad Qamar, however, told the scribe that he will take stern action against SI Safdar if he was found guilty. Security guard crushed to death A private company security guard was crushed to death by a speeding car in Garden Town area on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Laal Shah, a resident of Mandi Ahmedabad. Police said that Laal was on his way to his residence after completing his shift when an unidentified car hit him. He suffered multiple wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. Police handed over the body to the heirs after necessary legal formalities. A case has also been lodged against the unknown driver with no arrest so far.
