LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Division Bench on Thursday directed the authorities concerned to release former Director General Intelligence Bureau (IB) Brig (Retd) Imtiaz Ahmad on furnishing Rs20 million surety bonds. The LHC Bench comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Justice Hameed Dar allowing the bail relief to the imprisoned Imtiaz adjourned further hearing of his petition till October 6. The court also directed the authorities concerned to constitute a medical board for examining the health of the petitioner and furnish report on the next date of hearing. Brig (Retd)Imtiaz Ahmad was taken into custody from the Supreme Court on Tuesday last when the court learnt that his eight years conviction awarded to him in a reference in 2001, stands revived after nullification of the NRO, which previously benefited him. The petition did not enjoy the protection of the bail relief for the reason that he did not furnish the surety bonds against the bail earlier granted to him in the same reference by the LHC. After that the court had required him to furnish surety bonds and the present bench was constituted to hear the matter. The petitioners counsel argued that his client was suffering from heart disease so he should be granted bail. The NAB counsel ,however, opposed the grant of bail to the petitioner on various grounds. The court, after hearing the parties, however, allowed bail to Brig (Retd) Imtiaz on his furnishing the bail bonds in the sum of Rs 20 million.
