LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said a transparent system has been adopted to provide cash assistance to the flood affectees and in addition to other facilities, and special transport arrangements have also been made to bring them to NADRA offices. I am regularly visiting flood-hit districts to monitor distribution of Watan Cards while special teams comprising elected representatives have also been sent to the affected areas to monitor this process and resolve any problem of the flood affectees, he said, while presiding over a meeting regarding monitoring the distribution of Watan Cards for providing financial assistance to flood affectees here on Thursday. Member National Assembly Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Members Provincial Assembly, Mohsin Latif, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Hafiz Mian Nauman and officers concerned were also present on the occasion. The CM said the Punjab government was implementing a comprehensive programme for the rehabilitation of flood affectees and after the first phase of rescue and relief, special attention was being paid to the provision of financial assistance and reconstruction programme. He said the distribution of cash aid in flood affected districts was speedily underway and special complaint cells had also been set up in the affected districts to address the complaints of the affectees. He said besides transport facility to bring flood affectees from far flung areas, drinking water and seating arrangements had also been made for them at NADRA centres. The Punjab govt is facing a great challenge in the form of rehabilitation and reconstruction of devastated areas, but it will complete the task successfully. Elected representatives have been taking an active part in the relief activities and they should also participate in the rehabilitation work and distribution of cash assistance, he asked, adding that a team comprising elected representatives was being sent to Muzaffargarh to monitor distribution of Watan Cards for ensuring timely and transparent provision of cash aid to the affectees. Teams of elected representatives will be sent to other districts also for this purpose, he said. Elected representatives paid tributes to the CM for taking an active part in the relief and reconstruction work and said they would also leave no stone unturned in serving the calamity-stricken people. Earlier, the meeting was informed about the details of distribution of Watan Cards in different flood affected districts. Addressing a meeting here on Thursday, he said that alliance of different factions of Muslim League would be for the sake of the country and democracy and not for the benefit of any dictator. He said that the rulers were bringing their own downfall by not implementing court orders. Organisation Committee for donors conference Chief Secretary Punjab Nasir Mahmood Khan Khosa has constituted an Organisation Committee to supervise and coordinate all arrangements regarding donors conference to be held in Lahore on September 30 at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam. Chief Executive Officer Punjab Board of Information Technology Rizwan will be the Chairman and Secretary Planning and Development Department will be the Secretary of the Committee. MNA Malik Pervaiz, Director General PDMA, Director General Protocol, Additional Secretary Home (for security), Afzal Bhatti (for UK Donors Liaison), Comptroller Chief Ministers Secretariat, one representative each from PRMP and DGPR are also included in the committee. First meeting of the Organisation Committee will be held on Friday (today) at 10.30 am.
