LAHORE - Reformed General Sales Tax under VAT system and backed by IMF is being implemented from 1st October that would mitigate zero-rated sales tax to five big export sectors and instead would impose 17 pc VAT. This statement was issued jointly by former APTPMA Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Ayub, Vice Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Saeed, Haji Mohammad Anwar, Rana Abdul Basit, Masood Ahmad Butt and Sheikh Abdur Rasheed in a press release issued here on Thursday. They were of the view that had zero-rated sales tax facility been waived off, already dying local industry would have been further ruined. They said that in a bid to satisfy traders and industrialists, government has just changed the name of VAT with RGST.
