The Kashmir Contact Group (KCG) of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) has strongly condemned the continued house arrest and curbs on political and religious activities of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. According to Kashmir Media Service, a special session of the KCG held here was attended by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre Washington, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai and representatives of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Nigeria. The APHC Chairman was invited by the OIC to participate in the session, however, due to continued house arrest he could not attend the meeting. The APHC has an observer status in the OIC. On the other hand, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement in Srinagar hailed the recent assertion of UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon in which he had expressed concern over the situation in Kashmir. The Mirwaiz hoped that the UN would play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris' aspirations.
