Plea against bogus institutes put off

LAHORE Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on a petition against the existence of bogus universities and colleges in the country, Thursday required issuance of the notice to as many as 40 private academic institutions through advertisement in the press. The petitioner has been field by one Iftikhar Hussain through Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree on which the Court adjourned further hearing to October 15 next. On the last date of hearing the petitioner contended that he would advertise through press on his expense that any institution intending to present its point of view in the case against the bogus and un-recognised academic institutions may appear and file plea to become a party. The petitioner is aggrieved that in the country a number of universities and colleges existed with did not meet the standard and criteria set by the government. He says there are certain institutions which have been set up at even as small and incommodious place as a garage or a house of two rooms. He contends that these so called institutions are in fact playing with the future of the youth besides looting the public in the name of imparting the quality education. He has prayed to court for a direction to the authorities for taking action and closing down such institutions so that they do not destroy future of the youth.
