MIRPUR (AJK) - The Azad Jammu Kashmir government is all set to achieve a major breakthrough in the public transport sector with the advent of state-run model bus service by the Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) on various inter-district routes from Monday (today), official sources said.All is set by the public-sector NATCO to launch its non-stop luxury air-conditioned bus service on Mirpur - Chakothi via Muzaffarabad, Mirpur - Islamabad and on Neelam valley-Islamabad via Muzaffarabad routes from today (Monday), to provide safe and comfortable travelling facility the commuters, the AJK Transport Authority sources told media here on Sunday."The first inaugural NATCO bus will leave from General Bus Stand Mirpur at 4:00am in the morning on Monday for Chakothi via Muzaffarabad and Islamabad. Later, it will come back to Mirpur at 11:00pm from Muzaffarabad via Chakothi the last town on this side of the line of control in Hattiyan district of AJK", said AJK Minister for Transport Tahir Khokher.The inauguration ceremony of the bus service will be held at General bus stand in Mirpur on the wee hours of Monday (today)."Not only the urban population of two major AJK district, people from the remote areas en-route  Chakothi and the top mountainous Neelam valley will also be benefited of the non-stop travelling facility of the NATCO bus service", the minister said.Tahir Kokher, belonging to the MQM in the coalition PPP-led AJK cabinet, revealed to the reporters here on Sunday that the inaugural bus service would be totally free of fare for all people including journalists seeking to enjoy journey through the model bus to Chakothi - Muzaffarabad and Islamabad from and back to Mirpur.Earlier, the NATCO bus service was to be launched from September 20 - but it was delayed because of the completion of required arrangements including the establishment of the required bus stands in Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Islamabad", the minister said.The minister said that the network of the bus service would be expanded to rest of the AJK districts under a phased-wise programme.Meanwhile, elaborating the daily schedule of the bus service, AJK Transport Authority Secretary Adil Mahmood Khan informed that from Mirpur, the NATCO bus service would leave from General Bus Stand for its stipulated destinations four times a day. Similarly from Muzaffarabad, the bus service will leave for its stipulated destinations including Mirpur and Islamabad from hotel Neelam View Chowk four times a day on way back to their respective destinations from Chakothi and Neelam valley including Mirpur and Islamabad respectively.He said that the second phase of the plan also involved the proposed introduction of direct bus service to and from Mirpur for Lahore and Karachi and Muzaffarabad-Lahore and Karachi.The secretary stated that the beginning of the public-sector bus services aimed at providing safe and comfortable travelling facility to the commuters in AJK.It is to be noted that the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit / Baltistan-controlled NATCO is presently operating its bus service on various inter-district routes in Gilgit/Baltistan besides for various major cities of the country since long.
