BAHAWALPUR - Every Muslim across the world has been hurt by the release of blasphemous film and caricatures. The Muslims can never tolerate any such act at any cost. We condemned the killings of more than 22 innocent people and destruction of the public property worth billions of rupees during protests on Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (SAWW). The Pakistani government should take up the matter of blasphemous movie at international level and should take solid steps in this regard.Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Muhammad Yaseen Azad expressed these views while addressing a press conference after the SCBA executive council's meeting here the other day. It is to be noted that it was for the first time in the SCBA history that its executive council convened its meeting in Bahawalpur. The SCBA chief pointed out that the absence of leadership, both the religious and political, resulted in the gory scenes on Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (SAWW). Had the leadership led their supports and workers, the violence and destruction could have been averted," he elaborated. He asserted that it was the duty of leaders of political and religious parties to persuade their workers to stay peaceful in protests but they did not played their role, which resulted in the loss of precious lives.MR Azad claimed that the SCBA had never compromised on the principals, always respected the judiciary and believed in the independence of judiciary. The SCBA president stressed that judges should be appointed on merit and preference should be given to candidates the undeveloped and deprived areas of the country.About Balochistan situation, he said that situation in Balochistan had gone bad from worst, adding that there was a dispute between Baloch and Pakhtun but no political party was taking any interest to resolve the problem. "We organised a national level conference on Balochistan issue wherein many aspects of the problem were deliberated upon which had never been discussed before by anyone," he described. The SCBA president warned that the time was running out fast and if the issue was not addressed immediately it repercussions would be harmful for both the nation and country.Mr Azad regretted that more than Rs25 million had given to each MPA from Balochistan for development purpose but they did not spend this money in their respective areas.IUB okays 20pc pay raise for staff: Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar has approved 20 percent increase in the salary of the employees under special powers with immediate effect.
