KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Excise & Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on Sunday that motor vehicle tax recovery campaign would be launched from October 15 instead of September 24.An official statement cited the heavy rainfall in the province as the reason behind this delay. “For the campaign, 13 teams have been constituted in Karachi, while in other parts of the province teams would work under excise taxation officers concerned,” the minister said while talking to a group of reporters at his camp office. He said that due to heavy rains in Sindh, it was not feasible to start motor vehicle tax recovery campaign on September 24. “During the campaign, vehicles would be impounded and released after the payment of tax and fine,” he warned. Chawla asked owners of the vehicles to pay the due taxes timely to avoid strict legal action. Timely recovery of taxes would enable the Government to complete development projects in time. He told that during July 2012, Rs 257 million were received as motor vehicle tax while in July 2012, Rs. 329 million were received in head of property tax.
