Quite unfortunately, the day of ‘Youm-Ishq-e-Rasool’ (PBUM) witnessed widespread violence and destruction. It seemed that the government had given the license to smash and burn. The reckless and immoral behavior exhibited by many in the processions did no good; instead it damaged the intended noble cause. We need to do some self-assessment as to where we stand as a nation. Muslims in other countries also organised demonstrations, but hardly any protests turned violent. The purpose of this day was to register an international protest and convey the very meaning of Islam which is ‘Peace’. We saw no Islam in the actions of the crowd who came out on the streets to love their Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).AMIR IKRAM, Lahore, September 22
