Steps urged against dengue


KARACHI  - Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh has expressed concern over the increasing cases of dengue and underlined the need for taking all possible preventive steps on emergency basis.Sensing the gravity of the situation, all NOGs working in the city would be requested to play their active role in this regard, he said.He was presiding over a meeting in his office here on Saturday, said a release on Sunday.The meeting reviewed the measures taken so far for eliminating dengue and other mosquitoes and a strategy was prepared in this regard. Focal Person of the Divisional Dengue Control Cell and Deputy Commissioner-I Kamran Shamshad briefed the meeting about the steps taken by different organisations/departments to contain dengue.The commissioner emphasised the timely treatment of dengue-affected people, besides creating awareness among the people. For this purpose, he said, 100 bill boards would be fixed on different public points of the city. He said the concerned agencies should revise their spray schedules as the situation had become serious after the recent rains.The commissioner also said that in view of the increasing dengue fever cases in the city, the administration would design and erect billboards at 100 different locations to create awareness among the citizens about this disease caused by mosquitoes. The commissioner said it was worrisome to note that 206 dengue fever cases had been reported since January this year. “The administration has to tackle this issue on emergency basis,” he urged.
