PESHAWAR – Security forces, in a joint operation with police, killed two key Taliban commanders in Azakhel area of district Nowshera on Sunday.

Nowshera police with CID officials launched a pre-dawn joint operation near Muzamil brick-kiln at Azakhel in the wee hours of Sunday. Police raided a house and the alleged outlaws present at house opened fire on security forces.

The exchange of fire continued for some time and two people were killed in encounter. The two outlaws were identified as Matiur Rehman alias Mati and Latif Ullah alias Rehan, resident of Zarif Koorona Saro Kali, tehsil Yaka Ghund Mohmand Agency.

Police sources said both Matiur Rehman and Latif Ullah were wanted by the security forces in 40 different cases including bomb blast and other heinous crimes.

Both the militants were stated to be key Taliban commanders. The militants were residing in the mountainous area for a long time posing they were labourer at a brick kiln.

Police said both the militants were entering Nowshera through a mountainous route from unsettled area when security forces mounted attack on them. The dead bodies were shifted to DHQ Nowshera.
