ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police have beefed up security by deploying extra contingents of force around worship places situated in Islamabad following the attack on a church in Peshawar wherein some 80 Christians were killed.

According to a spokesperson of Islamabad capital territory police, security has been beefed up with extra deployment of policemen around churches and mosques situated in Islamabad.

A press note issued from office of Inspector General of Police Sikandar Hayat says that SDPOS have been directed to ensure effective security arrangements at worship places in their respective jurisdiction and conduct search operation in slum areas to nab the suspects and criminal elements.

The IGP gave these directions during a meeting that was held on Monday in premises of IG police office. The meeting was attended by SSP Islamabad Muhammad Rizwan, AIG Special Branch Waqar Ahmed Chohan, SP (Saddar) Jameel Ahmed Hashmi, sub-divisional police officers of Industrial Area circle and SHOs of all police stations.

The IGP directed for comprehensive security arrangements at mosques, Imambargahs, churches and other worship places. He also directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements there and ensure proper checking of suspected elements.

Sikandar Hayat directed all police officials to take further effective steps to control crime by enhancing strict patrolling and vigilance to ensure effective policing and special crackdown against the gambling dens and guesthouses involved in immoral activities.

Sikandar ordered all police officials, especially investigation officers, to complete probe in pending cases within 14 days. He said that he would himself review the overall performance in this regard on January 15.

He categorically asked all police officials to focus on resolving the public complaints and take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens.

He said that corrupt elements bringing bad name to the department will not be spared and urged all police officials to serve humanity. “Policing is a service-oriented job and every police official must serve the humanity with devotion,” he maintained.
